Freeway finds the fastest working free proxy for Chrome, per country, and connects in one click. Help, known limits and how to reach us.
Getting started
- Install Freeway from the Chrome Web Store and pin it from the puzzle-piece menu.
- Open it. The first scan starts on its own: it downloads three public proxy lists, tests up to 700 proxies from your connection, checks their real exit country and measures download speed. It takes about a minute and a half.
- Click the power button for the fastest proxy overall, or click a country. The badge on the icon shows the country your traffic exits from.
- Click the power button again to disconnect. Chrome returns to your normal connection.
Common questions
No proxies found, or none connect. Free proxies come and go by the hour. Click Rescan. Some office, school and mobile networks block proxy ports; try another network.
Connected, but slow or pages fail. Pick another country or another proxy from the expanded list. If a proxy stops answering, Freeway switches to the next fastest automatically (Settings, Switch automatically). Freeway never falls back to your normal connection silently, so a dead proxy shows as failing pages rather than leaking your IP.
The location shown differs from the country I picked. Freeway reports where the proxy actually exits, which can differ from what the public list claims.
"Another extension controls your proxy settings." Only one extension can set Chrome's proxy. Disable the other proxy or VPN extension at chrome://extensions and try again.
Does it protect other apps? No. Only Chrome's traffic uses the proxy. Freeway is not a VPN.
Is it safe for banking or logins? No. Free proxies are run by unknown operators. HTTPS pages stay encrypted, but avoid payments, banking and work accounts. Details in the privacy policy.
